Welcoming New Faculty

JoAnn Moody, a nationally known consultant on faculty diversity in higher education, gives a quick review of early steps to include new faculty as they come on board to an institution. For example, three months before hire, new faculty should receive information on course assignments, office hours, anticipated class sizes, previous/related sample syllabi, and email addresses of faculty who have previously taught the course and are willing to discuss previous expectations of the course. Faculty and personnel guidebooks should be sent as soon as possible. Other suggestions can be found in her article Supporting Women and Minority Faculty.
