Liza Cariaga-Lo, Assistant Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity

In June 2007, Dr. Liza Cariaga-Lo joined Harvard as the Assistant Provost for Faculty Development and Diversity. Prior to joining Harvard, Dr. Cariaga-Lo was the Assistant Dean and Director of the Office for Diversity and Equal Opportunity at Yale Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She also held a position as Assistant Clinical Professor at the Child Study Center at Yale School of Medicine. Dr. Cariaga-Lo received her master’s and doctorate in education from Harvard University, and has also been an assistant professor of medical education at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She taught courses in minority health and developmental psychology, as well as some courses in African American Studies and Asian American Studies. Her research deals with educational program evaluation, minority student development, ethnic minority health care and public policy affecting children and families. Ms. Fiona Chin, Manager of Special Projects

Ms. Chin works closely with the Senior Vice Provost and Assistant Provost on implementation and communication of Office initiatives and manages several of the Office's pilot programs. She serves on the steering committee of the Harvard College Program for Research in Science and Engineering (PRISE), administers the Research Enabling Grants and the Dependent Care Fund for Short-term Professional Travel, staffs the Provost's Review Committee on Faculty Appointments, and coordinates the Office's research activities. Ms. Chin joined the Office of FD&D from the Harvard Initiative for Global Health (HIGH), a University-wide enterprise that bridges the gap from basic to applied life sciences, including social, economic, political and ethical issues that influence global health. Prior to her work at HIGH, Ms. Chin worked in the Global Healthcare Group at UBS Investment Bank in New York City. She executed 20 merger, acquisition, and financing transactions for corporate clients in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and healthcare services industries. Ms. Chin graduated cum laude from Harvard College with an A.B. in Economics and was the Business Manager of The Harvard Crimson. Ms. Chin may be contacted at fiona_chin@harvard.edu.

Mr. Adrian Hoquee, Staff Assistant

Mr. Hoquee provides staff support for the Office of Faculty Development and Diversity, as well as the Office for Postdoctoral Affairs. Mr. Hoquee can be contacted at adrian_hoquee@harvard.edu.

 

Mr. Elton James, Coordinator

Mr. James coordinates events for of the Office of Faculty Development and Diversity and manages the website.  Before coming to Harvard, Mr. James worked as the Episcopal Lay College Chaplain to Berea College and Eastern Kentucky University where he helped establish the Episcopal chaplaincy program at E.K.U. and maintain and grow the already existing program at Berea College. Mr. James also served as Staff Assistant to the Episcopal Diocese of Lexington.  He graduated from Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio with a B.A. in Music with a concentration in Vocal Performance and Choral Conducting.  Mr. James may be contacted at elton_james@harvard.edu.

Mr. Gregory Llacer, Director of the Office for Postdoctoral Affairs;
Director of the Harvard College Program for Research in Science and Engineering (PRISE)

In October 2006, Mr. Llacer joined FD&D as the Director of the Office for Postdoctoral Affairs. An Associate of Leverett House and a member of the Harvard College Board of Freshman Advisers, Mr. Llacer also directs the Harvard College Program for Research in Science and Engineering (PRISE). Mr. Llacer formerly was an assistant director of fellowships in the Office of Career Services and director of the Herchel Smith Harvard Research and Michael C. Rockefeller Memorial Fellowship Programs. Before arriving at OCS in 2004, Mr. Llacer managed educational initiatives for the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology (HST). At HST Mr. Llacer administered educational enrichment programs for biomedical engineering and medical school students, advised students, postdocs, and faculty on the development of learning science modules in course materials (including a new biomedical ethics curriculum), and oversaw the NSF-supported VaNTH Engineering Research Center. Prior to his work at HST, Mr. Llacer spent 17 years on the staff of the Office of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of California, San Diego, where he was the senior research analyst for the Vice Chancellor for Research. Mr. Llacer’s undergraduate and master’s course work at UCSD and San Diego State University specialized in the areas of cross-cultural education and language policy. Ms. Linda Schneider, Executive Assistant to the Senior Vice Provost and the Assistant Provost

Ms. Schneider supports both Dr. Hammonds and Dr. Cariaga-Lo directly in the initiatives of the Senior Vice Provost’s Office. Ms. Schneider also provides administrative support for the Office at large. Prior to working with the Office, Ms. Schneider served in various administrative support positions at Harvard University Health services from Stillman Infirmary and Internal Medicine to Care Coordination. Ms. Schneider is a co-coordinator of the monthly Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer Women’s lunches for Harvard Faculty and Staff and is also a member of the Harvard Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Faculty and Staff Steering Committee. She also served as co-editor of the biannual Wellesley College Alumnae of Boston newsletter. Ms. Schneider graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Wellesley College, where she earned a B.A. in English in 2002. Ms. Schneider may be contacted at linda_schneider@harvard.edu.
