FD&D Pilot Fund

Application deadline: April 1, 2008

The Office of Faculty Development and Diversity (FD&D) was established in September 2005 to help the University realize its aspiration to find, develop, promote and retain the world’s best scholars, by serving as a resource to individual Schools and providing needed central coordination and oversight across the University. Specifically, the Office seeks to:

Schools are invited to submit funding proposals for pilot programs that will develop, implement, and evaluate strategies, policies and/or activities to advance these goals.

Administration of the Fund

The Office of FD&D is responsible for the administration of the Fund. A committee consisting of faculty, to be appointed by the Office of FD&D, will develop procedures for the implementation of guidelines and will review applications for funding.

Eligibility

Deans, Associate Deans, Assistant Deans, and faculty serving in diversity leadership roles are eligible to apply. Each grant application must be endorsed by the respective School’s Dean.

Metrics

Faculty and administrative leaders applying for funds are expected to identify specific measures of success. Staff in the Office of FD&D are available to help Schools identify appropriate data.

Matching funds

The University’s interest lies in experimenting with and creating evidence of the efficacy of specific faculty diversity and development initiatives. The Office of FD&D is interested in supporting Schools’ efforts that have high potential for replication across the University. The FD&D Pilot Fund may provide support for the development of programs, the improvement of faculty recruitment and development processes, or the enhancement of institutional capacities directly related to faculty diversity. Evidence of the availability and allocation of School matching funds for the duration of the pilot must be demonstrated at the time of application and endorsed by the School’s Dean before it is submitted for review.

Schools' matching funds may include faculty time, research assistant time, and development of specific databases or programs that may be required to track the progress of their initiatives.

Proposal deadlines and response time

The Review Committee will read applications once in Fall 2007 and once in Spring 2008. The Spring deadline for applications is April 1, 2008.
