  December 11, 2006 In the coming weeks, the University will distribute its first full faculty climate survey to all ladder and non-ladder faculty employed by Harvard. The survey will address mentoring, promotion, retention, workload, and work-life balance and will provide the University with quantitative data about the working environment for faculty, both in an absolute sense and relative to peer institutions. The climate survey is the result of a collaborative effort between the Office of Faculty Development and Diversity, the Institutional Research Office, and two faculty advisory committees with university-wide representation: the Advisory Group for Metrics and Analysis and the University Committee on Faculty Development and Diversity. In addition, the Deans of each School have reviewed the survey.

The Office for Postdoctoral Affairs has launched its new website.

The postdoc office, an initiative of the Office for Faculty Development and Diversity, will serve as a portal to a wide range of resources for current and prospective fellows.

  December 1, 2006 Dr. Joan Steitz delivered her lecture, "Lupus, Snurps and Women in Science," at the Conference Center at Harvard Medical School.

Steitz is the Sterling Professor of Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry at Yale University.

  November 29, 2006 Dr. Robert Drago delivered his talk, "Work-Family Issues for Faculty: Problems, Opportunities, and Policies," at the Faculty Development & Diversity Committee Meeting.

Drago is Professor of Labor Studies and Women's Studies at the Pennsylvania State University, is a Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne, and moderates the work/family newsgroup on the internet (lsir.la.psu.edu/workfam).

  October 19, 2006 Dr. Pheobe Leboy, Professor of Biochemistry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine delivered the second lecture in the "Women, Science, and Society" seminar series tonight. Her talk is entitled “Analyzing the Leaky Pipeline: Why are Women Scientists Under-represented in Senior Positions?” Dr. Leboy's presentation is available here.
  October 3, 2006 Dr. Charis Thompson, Associate Professor in the Department of Gender and Womens Studies and the Department of Rhetoric at the University of California, Berkeley, gave the first lecture in the "Women, Science, and Society" seminar series presented by the Harvard Graduate Women in Science and Engineering, the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and the Office of Faculty Development and Diversity.
