Transportation and Parking

    Harvard University offers a number of transportation programs and services to help faculty and staff get to and around campus. All of these programs and services may be accessed through the Harvard Intranet or HARVie. To access HARVie you must have a Harvard identification number and PIN. If you are in the process of becoming a new faculty member at Harvard you may obtain your Harvard identification number after your appointment paperwork is complete.

    Harvard Parking Services

    Harvard University Parking Services is committed to providing safe and reliable parking and related motorist assistance to the entire University community to ensure accessibility to the Allston and Cambridge campuses. The Harvard University Longwood Campus Commuter Services and Parking Office maintains and operates the parking for faculty, staff, students, and visitors to the Harvard Longwood Campus. These resources are extremely limited and are managed through a permitting system which is designed to optimize their use in a safe, efficient, and equitable manner.

    CommuterChoice

    CommuterChoice offers commuter planning and transportation options for Harvard’s faculty and staff. A number of services and information programs are offered by CommuterChoice, many of which provide incentives to those who use modes of transportation other than driving alone in a car. Services and information programs include:

    Passenger Transport Services

    The University Shuttle Service operates fixed route bus service during the academic year (except university recognized holidays and semester breaks) providing safe, convenient, and reliable transportation throughout the Cambridge and Allston campuses. In addition, the Medical Academic and Scientific Community Organization, Inc. (MASCO) operates a shuttle between the Longwood Medical Area and Cambridge (M2).

    The Transit Visualization System™ (ShuttleTracker) continuously displays the location of Harvard University and MASCO shuttles and animates their motion against a detailed map of recognizable University buildings and landmarks. The ShuttleTracker helps riders save time, stay safe, and have more control over their schedules, while enabling management to manage the Transportation fleet effectively.

    In addition, there are a number of services to ensure your safety at night.

    Evening Van Service

    The Evening Van Service is designed to transport faculty, staff, and students safely about the campus area as a supplement to the shuttle bus system. The service operates between 7 p.m. and 2:30 a.m., seven days a week throughout the entire year, including summer and break periods. No advance arrangements are needed. However, the last call for a ride must be received by 2:30 a.m. For more information, or to request a ride, please call 495-0400.

    Harvard University Campus Escort Program

    Harvard University Campus Escort Program offers escorts trained by the Harvard University Police Department. These escorts work in teams of two, and accompany students, faculty, and staff after hours through the Yard, River and Quad areas. Sun – Thurs: 10:30 p.m. – 2 a.m.; Fri & Sat: 10:30 p.m. – 3 a.m. (September through May) call 617-384-8237.
